How acupuncture works

During the initial consultation a full history will be taken. Information will be collected which will help me identify where there is an imbalance within a patient’s body. From this, a diagnosis is made and a point prescription will be put together. Sometimes the point location will be near the site of the symptom and other times they will be further away.

Ancient Chinese texts identified a series of channels, known as meridians, in the body. Each of these main meridians correspond to the internal organs and has energy traveling through them known as Qi. During a treatment the aim is to restore balance to these channels and in turn nourish the internal organs which they relate to. The points selected will be specific to each treatment. I also use acupressure and gua sha massage in treatment as adjunct to acupuncture.

About acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is a healthcare model going back almost 2000 years. The ancient belief is that when a person is experiencing pain or ill-health there is disharmony within the body. With the use of needles and other techniques, I aim to treat the whole body to restore equilibrium, thus reducing or eliminating the signs and symptoms which you are experiencing.

I have Ankylosing Spondilitis which brings with it various complications, a friend of mine suggested I try Clare at Hope Floats, her and her husband had both had successful treatment there. Clare immediately put me at ease, for the first appointment she takes an extensive health history, this took some time!!! After that I was given some Gua sha massage and acupuncture, I was amazed at how quickly the Gua sha brought about relief and improvement and the acupuncture has a long lasting healing effect.  During one of my appointments I mentioned how I was struggling with a few menopause symptoms, oh how I wish I had mentioned them quicker, Clare, listened again and treated accordingly with fantastic results.  I have regular appointments with Clare, partly for maintenance and feel I am in a much better place. Highly recommend.

I found Clare at Hope Floats in 2016 after years of debilitating hormonal migraines which were resistant to painkillers and migraine medications. After just a few sessions my migraines disappeared and I felt more balanced in myself. Now I go every few months for a session to keep my symptoms at bay. I am so relieved to have found a treatment that helps. The Hope Floats clinic is lovely, and Clare is always relaxed and welcoming.

I started to see Clare a few year ago for acupuncture & Gua sha. She has helped me from shoulder pain, to irregular periods to most recently with fertility treatment helping me to conceive. She’s truly great at what she does, would highly recommend.
